What motivates kids to prepare for their career choices?
For some, it might be making a difference in the world, doing
something they’re good at or earning a good living. That is
the foundation of the new “Makin’ It In Michigan” program
— showing students a way to do all that in one industry —
manufacturing.
Advanced Manufacturing is alive and evolving in Michigan. It
still matters to Michigan and will continue to well into the future.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, many sectors of
manufacturing are growing and need additional employees. In
fact, the skilled trade areas are looking at a serious labor
shortage in the near future.
Manufacturing is a key source of good paying jobs, with average wages
in 2005 at $56,677 compared to an average state wage of $41,125. And
that’s before considering health care and pension benefits, which manufacturers provide more often
than other businesses.
